Taylor Farms, a supplier of shredded iceberg lettuce to Taco Bell, has been identified as a possible source of contamination in a cyclosporiasis outbreak. The outbreak has caused nearly 7,000 cases of the intestinal illness, with 1,645 confirmed reports and over 5,100 cases requiring further analysis. Cases have been reported in 34 states, with Michigan and New York being the hardest hit. The parasite can cause symptoms such as cramping, nausea, and explosive diarrhea. Taco Bell has temporarily removed some ingredients from select restaurants as a precautionary measure, but public health officials have not confirmed a link to the company or any specific ingredient.
